From the Editor's Desk...

My, how time flies. It has certainly been a very busy three months since the last newsletter, for both Hudson and Hudson fans. Where, oh where, to begin...

Let's start with Hudson's fans...Hudsonites? Hudsonians? Hudsonphiles? Whatever you choose to call this merry band of Hudson Leick admirers one thing is for sure, they are some of the friendliest, most loyal, imaginative and industrious people that you will ever have the pleasure to meet.

In evidence of this fact, just visit any one of the now numerous Hudson Leick/Callisto web sites and you will see some of the most elaborate and informative web sites on the Internet. If you take the time to read any of the "Callisto" fan fiction or poetry that that has been written you will find that a lot of these authors are incredibly talented. And if you want to find the most neighborly group of people on the Internet just "check out" the Hudson-Leick Mailing List or Digest Option. These people are always willing to extend a helpful and friendly hand to newcomers and are constantly looking for ways to promote Hudson and help further her career. Whether it's letters to magazines or studios, Net Forum invasions (more on these later) or letter writing campaigns, this group of ingenious and resourceful fans are always "on the move".

I can't possibly list each person individually and the contribution that have made on behalf of Hudson and the fan club - that would take an entire newsletter by itself - but it certainly can be said that Hudson Leick's faithful supporters are truly *amazing* people. Then again, I guess it only makes sense that since Hudson, herself, is such an extraordinary person that her fans would be equally so.

Mega thanks to everyone who has contributed their time, money, talents, creativity and enthusiasm to get us where we are today. If I may use a couple of old quotes, here, "We've come a *long* way, baby"! and "we've only just begun"!

Hudson Leick Official Fan Club

Speaking of "coming a long way", the Hudson Leick Official Fan Club Web Site has now completed it's move to a new home: [http://www.hudsonleickfan.com]. Wesser, Shaddy and the entire HLOFCWS maintenance team have done an absolutely outstanding job of making the Hudson Leick Official Fan Club Web Site worthy of a goddess. Not only does it look *totally awesome* but it also offers *tons* of Hudson/Callisto related material, Fan Club information and lots of other fun, informative and nifty things. If you haven't yet done so, be sure and stop by and take a look around and if you would like to become part of the Official Fan Club Web Site maintenance team be sure and write to Wesser or Shaddy. They are always looking for volunteers to help out and will welcome any offers of assistance.

If you would like to join the Hudson Leick Official Fan Club go to the Official Fan Club Web Site: http://www.hudsonleickfan.com, click on "Fan Club" from the main page, then fill out the brief questionnaire. It's free and it's easy!

We are currently in the process of putting together fan club membership packets and will post the information on the HLOFCWS just as soon as they are available. The Hudson Leick Official Fan Club membership packages will include: an exclusive, autographed, 8X10, color photo of Hudson, a biography, filmography, membership certificate, wallet sized fan club membership card and a fan club button.

These membership packages will be available to *both* Internet and non-Internet fans, alike. Fan club members who have already joined the fan club, online, may choose *not* to purchase the membership package, but purchase just the autographed 8X10 photo of Hudson, or possibly even nothing at all. (obviously the price for just the photo will be less than the purchase of the entire membership package) But whether you choose to purchase the fan club membership package, or join the fan club online at the official fan club web site (for free), or both, your fan club membership status will be the *same* and everyone will be given the same fan club privileges.

Hudson Leick: Up Close and Personal

Having graciously agreed to my interview request, Hudson Leick and I met on May 31st at Creation's Xena/Hercules Sacramento convention. Hudson sat in a chair opposite me - cross-legged in a pair of "leggings", wearing no shoes or makeup - looking like a bright-eyed, fresh-faced teenager. While we talked, she nibbled on a sandwich loaded with sprouts and "chased it" with vitamins and bottled water.

For the record, I was *extremely* nervous, to say the least. Just imagine what it would be like to sit across for those deep, dark, penetrating brown eyes, that seem to have the ability to look right into your very soul, without having at least a few "butterflies" floating around inside you. Those of you who have had the immense pleasure of meeting Hudson in person will know what I mean.

I found Hudson to be very thoughtful and candid with her replies, to my sometimes personal and probing questions, and I thank her for her honesty.

Hudson says that she does not have an Internet account, nor does she log on the Internet - "It would take me a week just to type in my name", she laughs - but she has seen the Hudson Leick/Callisto Web Sites and is very pleased.

Here is my interview with Hudson:

Me: The last time you were on "Touched By An Angel" a lot of people missed it because we didn't know you were going to be on. The tape is still being passed around. [G]

HL: Best that they missed it. <chuckling>

Me: Was that not a pleasant experience?

HL: It was really interesting and I experienced a lot...I thought it would be a lot more...In my mind, I thought it would be really spiritual. And it wasn't...in my experience. At least it wasn't the "light" side of it.

Me: The behind the scenes?

HL: Uh huh!

Me: Did you tape a third one? Everyone's wondering...

HL: <shaking head> (while trying to eat as I'm barraging her with questions)

Me: Oh, you didn't?! Because we had word that you were in the process of doing a third one and then they weren't going to show it. And then they were going to show it next season...and then...

HL: No

Me: So, there is no third...Okay, everyone can quit looking for it.

HL: I'm in a movie now.

Me: Oh, you are?...Excellent...What?

HL: It's a small movie...Adam Rifkin did it...he also did "The Chase". He's directing it and he wrote it. And It's REALLY sexual." <laughing>

Me: <laughing> Oh, it's a porn movie?

HL: No, but it has a lot of porn in it. <still laughing>

Me: No, you're kidding? <still laughing>

HL: It's a comedy...It's a comedy.

Me: Okay.....

HL: Ummmm, I have a very small part. And I auditioned for him and he really liked my audition, but my name wasn't big enough to give me the lead, so he offered me this really TINY TINY part. And I said, I don't want the tiny part...I want like at least something...give me something. So I ended up getting kinda like this um, this woman who owns her sexuality. Like, REALLY OWNS IT!

Me: Okay.....

HL: And um, ends up sleeping with one of the guys...One of the main characters. But it's very um.....

Me: There's substance to the character, I take it?

HL: There's DEFINITELY substance...She's not like she's Celeste, where she's like "blink blink"...

Me: So, you like the part in the new movie?

HL: Uhhhhh...huh... <she was still trying to eat>

Me: And, what's the name of it?

HL: The name of the movie?..."Denial"

Me: Do you know when it might be released?

HL: No...

Me: But you're working on it now?

HL: Uhhhhhh hmmmmmm...

Me: Cool...We want to see you work... <grin>

Me: Since you've moved around, and lived in many places over the years, where would you consider your favorite place to live and where do you call home?

HL: <long pause...thinking> Ummmm...I don't have a home right now. Um...I would say, our house, but I don't know how long we'll stay there...nothing like a "home".

Me: I know you've traveled, so where in your travels did you find most enjoyable?

HL: It doesn't really matter the place, as much as it is the state of mind that I'm in. So when I was in France when I was 19, that was like the best experience. But then again, I was drunk and smoking, but it was an amazing experience so it felt really good. But I wouldn't say that I want to spend my life in France.

Me: At this point in your career would you be interested in working on a weekly tv series or are you concentrating primarily on movies?

HL: It would depend on the show, but I would rather do movies right now...or guest stars. It gives me more freedom.

Me: So you wouldn't want to be "tied down" to a weekly series.

HL: I wouldn't say that if something came up that was *amazing* that I wouldn't take it, but I would prefer not to.

Me: <tongue in cheek> So, in other words, you don't want to do a spin-off of Callisto? <smirk>

HL: <heavy sigh> No...

Me: <laughing> I'm just kidding...That was a joke.

HL: People ask me that, though.

Me: I assure you that was purely a joke on my part.

Me: Are there any similarities between Hudson Leick and Callisto?

HL: Absolutely!

Me: Anything specific come to mind?

HL: I've been through *hell* in my life...HELL...and I know what it's like to want to "thrash" in it...Like to be in that deep, dark place and just "thrash" around. Ummmm...For some reason I've made it through and I don't even know what those reasons are...really...

Me: Internal...external?

HL: You mean of why I made it through? Why I'm still alive?

Me: Uh huh...

HL: Definitely, something greater than me. And even when I thought I had absolutely no more "will" left to live, I must have had the smallest amount...Which just grew.....it grew as time went on.

Me: Do you feel you're a strong person?

HL: I feel sometimes like I'm a big, strong tree...that's *huge* and really really strong. And while like a wind blows, it can't knock the tree down and the grass kind of bends to it, but a REALLY BIG WIND COMES and that tree goes right down!

Me: And you don't feel you have the strength to "weather the wind"?

HL: No, not all the time...no. I feel like I'm really strong like steel sometimes and I feel like that "positive" can turn into a "negative" and that will break, as well, if you don't bend. That's my experience in life.

Me: What are some of your childhood memories?

HL: I was always, ummm...I was an amazing kid. Fat cheeks and like always dirty and scruffy and I was pretty happy most of the time, regardless of what was going on around me.

At this point, we had to wrap things up because Hudson still needed to get dressed for her q&a session, so I thanked her for her time and wished her all the best.

If you would like to read the entire transcript from Hudson's q&a session, or see some of the pictures taken at the Sacramento convention, be sure and visit the Hudson Leick Official Fan Club Web Site: http://www.hudsonleickfan.com

Callisto Rocks!

For the past few weeks we have had the following question posted on the Hudson Leick Official Fan Club Web Site. Thanks to everyone who responded - and there were *lots* of responses - unfortunately, there just isn't enough space to list them all. Here are some of the replies that we received...

"What first attracted you to "Callisto" and what do you like most about her?"

From: LinDaluvsU@aol.com
Answer: I was first attracted to Callisto by her cunning wit and princessly psychotic mindset. I like that she's a strong, beautiful woman who has a mission that she will not give up, and I like that she doesn't use her looks to get what she wants. She gets it by her strength and skills. Her passion for revenge is quite respectable and terrifying.

From: glaive1@aol.com
Answer: While the character of Callisto is despicable, she is also charismatic. I can well imagine the likes of Callisto leading an army hell bent on destruction more than Xena. She has a great sense of "humor" too... you gotta love a girl who spits "Why don't you just be a good little boy and die?!!" I think what attracts people to her is the contrast of her extreme beauty and extreme evil nature.

From: smolko.e@ghc.org
Answer: I would have to say her single-minded obsession in taking revenge on Xena. How cold, calculated, and utterly ruthless she is also brilliantly counterpointed by her innocent and playful exterior. What I really like about her is that she believes that she is Xena's equal. She does not carry that bravado of other warlords, she is as serious about Xena as Xena is of her. She is a wonderfully intelligent and flamboyant arch enemy. Her ability to manipulate the emotions of her enemies is very well developed, a psychological warfare expert. Finally, I would like to say that having Callisto as that physical reminder of Xena's past is important to the story. Xena needs that memory of her past, so no matter how much good she does, the evil that she did will never be forgotten.

From: bpotter@dhc.net
Answer: What first......oh, the fact that she's such a bad girl! I mean, who else can hiss and spit and scream and ~wear black leather~, and get away with it? Then again, she's unrepentantly evil...knows how to mess with people...is as unpretentiously psychotic as they come...and loves her work!

And she reminds me of myself. Ah, what a role model. We love you, Hudson, oh yes we dooo...

Callistofanchick, Christina Potter

From: mancini@wwdg.com
Answer: I didn't really like her at first because she is a total psycho(sp?), but then I realized that's what makes her such a great character. The best think about her is how cheerfully she goes about trying to get her revenge on Xena.

From: erin-hunt@geocities.com
Answer: I first saw Callisto on "Intimate Stranger". During the two minutes I saw of Hudson playing her, I was struck by how she appeared so vicious and vulnerable at the same time. There was something cathartic about her rage. As to why I like Callisto, I'm drawn to her tragic story. I basically see her as a wronged little girl. I like the fact that she's a worthy foe for Xena, I love her black humor and I like her personality in general. Don't ask for specifics on why I like her personality so much, it's just one of those things that you can feel.

From: Jason Thorburn <vobrien@uniserve.com>
Answer: I was channel surfing, when I came across a channel displaying a beautiful women in leather and carrying a sword. I decided to watch the rest of X:WP, to see who she was. It was Hudson who got me hooked on Xena: Warrior Princess. As for the Character Callisto, I love her 'will' power. Callisto is like me, she won't stop until she gets what she wants.

From: nnayko@disch3.disc.dla.mil
Answer: She is such an interesting character on many aspects; i.e., her beauty, cunning, resourcefulness, fighting skills as well as a keen sense of getting people to do what she wants through sympathy or psychology. I guess I like her continued pursuit of tormenting Xena. She keeps on coming like The Terminator in that movie. She won't give up.

From: Seraphix@aol.com
Answer: The fact that she was another strong willed capable woman who was able to fend (quite well) for herself and not have to depend on a man. I also liked how well she was able to fight on the level of Xena and also, you just gotta love that insanity! =)

From: ravnos317@aol.com
Answer: Yeah, I know this is going to seem really corny, but I fell in love with her eyes. As far as "Hudson" goes, she has beautiful eyes, any when playing "Callisto" has real intensity behind them. I've seen too many people with nothing going on in or behind their eyes, and it's a rare occasion to see emotion (even if it's acting) in someone's eyes. She's also got an incredible smile.

From: dingane@aol.com
Answer: I was first attracted because she's a gorgeous blonde in black leather. Shallow, perhaps, but shallow water is clear water.

What I like most about her is her refusal to use intoxicants. Many people who are in emotional pain hide behind alcohol and drugs. Not Callisto; she accepts her pain and lives with it. That is heroic.

From: WinnD5@aol.com
Answer: A first I loved Callisto mostly because she was the first TV villain I ever saw with real depth in the character, of course the looks and the jokes didn't hurt either.

What I find so compelling about the character now though, the element that has inspired me to write Callisto stories, is the tragic aspect of the character. My heart cant help but bleed for this poor lost child that no one loves or cares the least little bit about.

I want to see her have a happy ending so badly.

God Bless Deric

The Invasion Is Underway

Everyone knows that Xena: Warrior Princess has one, if not the most active message based Net Forum on the Internet. Messages scroll off the Xena Net Forum in hours, not days, as is usually the case with most of Universal's Net Forums.

This being the situation, one very enterprising Hudson Leick/Callisto supporter decided to find an alternative place for his fellow Hudson/Callisto fans to call "home", that wouldn't be an intrusion to Xena fans, and would also give us a place of our own to talk about *our* favorite actress and villianess....Hudson/Callisto.

Lo and behold, this ever resourceful Hudson/Callisto admirer went looking for, and came across the EZ Streets Net Forum...Knocked on the door...And, sure enough, no one was home and hadn't been for quite some time. So, like any good soldier would do, he called on his fellow army members to help with the invasion of the EZ Streets Net Forum.

Even though the title may say "EZ Sreets" (which we're trying to convince Universal to change to "Hudson Leick/Callisto") this is a great place for all Hudson/Callisto fans to be able to converse openly in a friendly, message based atmosphere.

To visit the new Hudson Leick (EZ Streets) Net Forum, and help with the invasion, go to: http://netforum.universalstudios.com/netforum/topics/mca.tv.ezstreets

The Forum is a tiny bit temperamental (much like the "goddess Callisto", herself <grin>) and will try to convince you that you don't have "message posting capabilities", after you sign in, but don't be intimidated. Just go ahead and enter your message, anyway...It will post! And post *a lot* and post often! The more people we can get to help with the invasion, the better our chances are of getting our very own, legitimate Hudson Leick/Callisto Net Forum.

Thanks Taurus Brat for heading up the Net Forum Invasion. This just goes to show another ingenuous Hudson/Callisto fan hard at work. :)

You "Leick" Us...

It is very important for Hudson fans to express their support for Hudson with e-mail and letters. Yes, it *does* make a difference! It certainly did make a difference when people wrote to Axcess magazine, after they ran their March issue, which included pictures of Hudson and her very candid interview. Hudson was the *only* celebrity mentioned within the May "Axcess Letters" section which referred to the March Axcess issue -- even though Carmen Electra appeared on the March Axcess cover.

"Thank you" to everyone who took the time to write and express their gratitude and appreciation to Axcess magazine for their excellent article on Hudson. Here are a couple of the letters that were published in the "Axcess Letters" section of the May issue sent by our very own Mich and Deric. Way to go, guys!

"Axcess Letters"

"You Leick Us! You Really, Really Leick Us!"

Dear Rod Dovlin and Axcess,

Thanks for providing your entertaining, candid and provocative article, "Warrior of the Soul". I must confess, I'm one of hundreds of Hudson Leick/Callisto fans who had never heard of Axcess Magazine before your excellent Hudson Leick article. However, during March, well over 300 members of the rapidly growing Hudson Leick Fan Club have been scrambling to find your Axcess Magazine! And many more fans of the popular syndicated Xena:Warrior Princess series were also introduced to your Axcess magazine for the first time. Many Hudson fans have expressed their great appreciation for your revealing Hudson Leick article and the candid Hudson interview contained within. The five beautiful Hudson color photos were also a wonderful treat!! Thank you!

Furthermore, please inform us if Hudson will be mentioned during any installment of The Gossip Show on E! We'll be forever grateful!!! And THANKS again for your great Hudson article. It was a fabulous introduction to your Axcess Magazine!

Sincerely, Mich Hudson Leick Fan Club Member
______

Dear Mich,

We're ever so pleased you like our Axcess magazine. And we know what you're talking about; we received a vast influx o' email from people who must be members of your Hudson Leick/Callisto fanbase. We felt that your letter pretty much summed up what your fellow fans had to say. So now, the next time you attend a meeting of your Callisto fan club, you can feel really special. And you should!
______

Dear Axcess,

I had never heard of your magazine before, but when word got out about your Hudson Leick interview, "Warrior of the Soul", I knew I was going to find it as soon as possible. I've bought six copies of the March issue to date, and if I find anymore, they'll be mine as well. Is there any chance a fella could talk you folks into reproducing that great two-page layout photo of Hudson at the front of the article into a poster?

God Bless,

Deric
______

Dear Deric,

So... it's you who's been buying up all of our units! Now you'll never escape; we have agents everywhere! As far as the "centerfold" goes, sorry we can't help you there. If you'd like, however, pick up our Axcess Vol.V No.1 -- the one with Mark Hamill on the cover. There's a nice Princess Leah picture we're sure you'll find interesting. Also, while you're at it, check out the Geeks section. Or, if it's Ms. Leick you really want, check out http://amoeba.cts.du.edu/hudson.htm, a nice website dedicated to that selfsame actress and just about anything with which she's ever been involved.

Vote...Vote...Vote!

It saddens me to have to report that in recent weeks Hudson has been coming in 2nd place (and sometimes even lower <for shame>) in StatsMaster's weekly "Hottest Actress of the Web's Top 20" poll, for favorite female movie and tv stars from the past, present and future.

Sarah Michelle Gellar - Buffy, from Buffy and the Vampire Slayer - has now been in the coveted number 1 position for the last 5 consecutive weeks and is quickly closing in on Hudson's all time record of 7 consecutive weeks at number 1. We can't let this happen, now can we?

To cast your vote for Hudson, and get move her back into the number 1 position, go to StatsMaster's "Hottest Actress of the Web" web site at: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/3048

Each week's poll runs from 12am Monday morning through 11:59pm Sunday evening.

Please vote once a week, every week, and let's get Hudson back on top where she belongs.

This site offers a continually growing section of original fan fiction. There are also some of my favorite Hudson Leick and Callisto pics and a Top Ten of my favorite Callisto quotes. Most importantly, it is constantly updated.

Question: How did you first discover Hudson Leick and what compelled you to start a Hudson Leick/Callisto Web Site?

Darth Skeye: I used to be a Melrose Place fan and really found myself liking "what's her name that is playing Shelly Hanson." Then I say her again in the TV movie Hijacked. And I liked her more. Once I saw her again as Callisto, I was hooked. When I decided to find out more about her on the web, I find a small multitude of sites about her. The more I found out, the more I was impressed. So I started to join the fray. Once she quickly wrote back to me with a personally autographed picture and note, I knew she deserved the time I put in and then some.

The story section is moving beyond Callisto, into the realm of poetry and other works by close friends of mine. They will be labeled to avoid confusion.

Question: How did you first discover Hudson Leick and what compelled you to start a Hudson Leick/Callisto Web Site?

Robert: I discovered Hudson when I first saw "Surprise". I loved her in it, and I started to watch Xena, hoping to see her more. I started my page because of my admiration of her acting skills and her role as Callisto.

Question: How did you first discover Hudson Leick and what compelled you to start a Hudson Leick/Callisto Web Site?

Gary: I only first started watching Xena when the episode "The Xena Scrolls" first aired. So, the first time I saw HHL was in the Herc episode "Surprise!". I was totally captivated! The next week I believe was the third episode of the "Quest" trio... "A Necessary Evil" I set up the website the next day. I later caught the other Cally episodes in re-runs this summer. What attracted me to her? I dunno... her evil... I've always had a thing for beautiful bad girls... that's what first got me into it. Then I caught her in "Intimate Stranger" and "Ten Little Warlords" and I realized she was a phenomenal actress. Then seeing her in "Touched" totally blew me away. She really deserves her own series. I hope she gets it!

About 5 months ago I "acquired" a Truevision Bravado 1000 video capture board. Ever since, I have been making video clips and posting them on this web site. I usually post them as a "Clip of the week" (or two) and then send them to Wesser for addition to the fan club's movie page. I also have still images from Hudson's various performances, along with images from her Axcess Magazine interview (with actual permission from the publisher).

The main page has not changed that much in the time that it has been there (quickly approaching a year now). I have some plans to enhance both that page and my Xena page (3d images, animation's, etc.), but by adding new stuff the page takes a long time to load. I may end up with two pages, for high and low bandwidth connections. Downloading large video files is one thing, but waiting for pages to load breeds a whole new realm of boredom.

About me: By day…Typical computer geek working for EDS (you can't get a degree from RIT in Computer Engineering Technology without being one). By night… most definitely not a typical computer geek. Sports? Oh yes. I am decent at and enjoy playing ice hockey, lacrosse, football, and volleyball, but have only really excelled in golf, baseball/softball and bowling. Most important thing you should know about me - I'm extremely sarcastic. If you see mail from me please take this into consideration before you turn your flame thrower in my direction. ;]

Favorite Shows: Sorry Xenites, Babylon 5 is #1. Movies - Contact, MIB for recent ones, but Monty Python & the Holy Grail is still the best.

About the web site: I like to think it is one of the better ones. It has a few animation's, but is still not to busy. It contains quite a few images, but I have compressed them as much as possible. The load time should not be too long even over a slow connection. It does contain a little JavaScript and Java, so those of you using old browsers aren't seeing everything. It also has photos, videos, and up to date information about.. um.. er..what's her name again? Oh yeah - Hudson Leick -That's who the page is for. :]

Since the first 4 sites (that we could find) gathered (pages by Sturm, Rob Ablang, Bearhawk_x, and myself) the entire premise was to show our individual creativity in each web site while providing free publicity to help Hudson's career. When more sites started to take form, Project Callisto was started to provide a central location for recent news, background information, and link together all Hudson/Callisto related sites. It is amazing to see how many sites there are now, but there is always room for more. I put this request to every Hudson fan out there - Start your own page! If you need help contact the people running other sites. Every voice counts so make yours heard.

Question: How did you first discover Hudson Leick and what compelled you to start a Hudson Leick/Callisto Web Site?

I first really noticed her during the encore airing of Callisto (although now I do remember seeing 1 or 2 episodes of University Hospital when they aired - I just didn't link Hudson to that show). I was intrigued about the character, and wanted to see if Hudson put as much zeal into other parts. Two weeks later I found out that she lived about 10 minutes from my house - and I was completely hooked. It's a tribute to an extremely talented actress, but it also has a hometown edge to it. I wanted to do what I could, and a web page was as good a place to start as any.

Hudson/Callisto Web Ring

Submitted by: Megalion

I got the idea to create the webring when I saw Sturm's page which contained information about "Project Callisto". I wanted to help but didn't have a site with any unique Callisto/Hudson Leick content of my own so I decided to create a ring that would aid the Project's goal of linking the sites together!

People who want to surf the ring can enter it from the homepage and go to the next site in the ring or to a random site in the ring. Webmasters can submit their own sites to the queue for addition to the ring. All submissions are held in a queue until the Ringmistress has a chance to verify that the site contains the navigational bar and also meets the content guidelines.

I am proud to note that the 4 months since the ring has been created, we have over 45 sites and are growing all the time; at least one new site a week but sometimes more. We have the second highest membership of a Xena-related ring. The Web of Bruce is our closest competitor at just under 45 sites. Warrior Princess Ring has the most sites at just under 100. I propose a challenge to all the budding webmasters out there to put together sites about our favorite villianess and join the ring. Let's try to beat Xena!

Here is the complete list of every web site currently in the Web Ring. They are listed in order by Site ID (the order in which they joined the ring!)

Cirrian Restoration Society

Submitted by: Melissa Monson monson@nevada.edu

The Cirrian Restoration Society (CRS) is a group dedicated to the reconstruction of Callisto's home village Cirra (which you might recall was burned to the ground by the Destroyer of Nations). What started off as a fictional post to the Hudson Leick Mailing List advertising the Grand re-opening of the First National Bank of Cirra, quickly inspired the construction of the Law Offices of IM Akrooke. And soon after that came the official founding of the CRS. Basically the idea is to rebuild the village one "post" at a time. Buildings are constructed by advertising their existence, the form which the advertisement takes is completely at the discretion of the constructor. There have already been several different methods, with the most common being the announcement of Grand-openings detailing what the building contain, what services are offered, what rules must be obeyed, etc.

As X:WP is prone to traverse time so are we at the CRS. Our new and improved version of Cirra includes a bank, a mall, a heavy Metal Punk Rock Band!, a space program, and many other modern facilities. The main thing to keep in mind when starting a project is Callisto's philosophy. And of course, be creative! In keeping with The Callistonian way many of the CRS projects have been dedicated toward building and maintaining military forces, including Ground Troops, a Naval force, An Air force, a Space Program, a military intelligence division, A warrior training academy, and a gymnastics school (yes in Cirra Gymnastics correlates heavily with warrior skills).

As the CRS is not a MUDD or IRC it does not take place in real time, so activity is accomplished merely by posting what you are up to. Of late, much of the CRS activity has been in the form of short stories chronicling the adventures and/or misadventures of resident Cirrans: crime reports, television schedules, parties, legal trials, and even pirate invasions all occur with regularity in Cirra.

CRS business is largely conducted via the Hudson Leick Mailing list, however through the magic of cross posting Cirra's reconstruction can now be found on the unofficial Callisto netforum as well.

If you want to start a project or simply join the think-tank by throwing out some ideas, I ask that you please e-mail me. Tho this is not an official group, it will help keep track of what is being done with regards to restoring Cirra. This should help eliminate duplicating the work of others. Remember this is all in fun, so if you say you want to help out that doesn't mean you are bound by law to do so, believe it or not I too have real life obligations. All contributions are welcome.

If you have any questions, or would just like me to send you some examples of CRS activity, please feel free to ask.

Melissa (monson@nevada.edu) Mayor of Cirra The Goddess Callisto's personal Scribe (tho the Goddess tells me that a Scribe by any other name is still a *Bard*).

Thanks, Melissa....

A Heartfelt Thanks To Hudson

Submitted by: Michael Rudy michaelr@comteck.com

Hi Everyone, I thought I'd share this personal story with all of you, who I consider my closest friends. Before I start I'd like to tell you guys a little about myself.

My name is Michael Rudy and I'm 25 years old (soon to be 26). I live in Marion, Indiana, which is fifty miles Northeast of Indianapolis. I have a disease know as Muscular Dystrophy (MD for short). Yes, it is the same disease that has the telethon hosted by Jerry Lewis every Labor Day weekend. For those of you who aren't familiar with MD, it is a disease that causes muscle tissue to deteriorate and become useless. There are over forty different types of MD. The type that I have is called Duchenne, which is the most severe form of MD. My muscles have deteriorated to the point that I'm confined to an electric wheelchair during all my waking hours. Also my diaphragm (the muscle that we all use to breathe) has been weakened that I need the assistance of a ventilator to help me breathe. I can breathe on my own but, because my diaphragm is so weak my breathing is very shallow. The ventilator helps me take normal breaths. The ventilator I use is very similar to the one Christopher Reeve uses. I have a ventilator mounted on the back of my wheelchair so I'm able to move about on my own. I don't want you guys feeling sorry for me. Having Muscular Dystrophy doesn't bother me in the least and I don't want it to bother any of you. I just consider having MD a minor inconvenience that life has thrown my way. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, on with my story.

I first noticed Hudson back in 1994 when she starred in "University Hospital", and immediately became a fan. I've followed her career ever since that day. I remember thinking that she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen in my entire life, a goddess living among mortals. Hudson in my opinion has the most alluring brown eyes on the face of the earth. I love to watch Hudson act, she is totally awesome. I was assistant casting director in high school and I saw a lot of actors and actresses, so it takes a lot to impress me. Hudson is a phenomenally talented actress, who I know one day will receive an Emmy or and an Oscar for her work. and become a super, no a mega-star before her career ends. I lost track of Hudson for two years. Then one Saturday afternoon I was watching my favorite show "Xena Warrior Princess" and was thrilled to see that Hudson was a guest star. I was in another room when I heard the unmistakable voice of Hudson. I almost wrecked my wheelchair trying to get to the TV. I immediately fell in love with Hudson's exquisite portrayal of "Callisto". She brings the psychotic warrior queen to life magnificently.

I'm not going get into in a lot detail with the next part of my story, because I don't like to remember it. At the beginning of this year I became very depressed about having Muscular Dystrophy. I felt that it was totally unfair that I'd never be able to do the things people without MD are able to do each day. I felt like I was unless and would never amount to anything. I cried myself to sleep for weeks. I thought I'd never be happy again.

Then it happened, the reruns of Xena in which Hudson played Callisto were shown. Seeing Hudson brought me out of the depths of my depression. With each episode that was rerun in March, I began to feel better about myself. Hudson gave me a new lease on my life. I'm a writer and hadn't been able to write anything since I graduated high school. My creativity had fizzled out, the stories just weren't there. Seeing Hudson inspired me to start writing again. The stories started flowing from my mind as if a floodgate had been opened. I'm currently using my writing talent to write a Callisto spin off television series. I have never believed in coincidence, I think everything happens for a reason. Those reruns were shown at just the right time in my life, and I'm extremely glad that they were. I don't think it was accidental that they were shown at that time. That was my first bout with depression that I have ever experienced and I hope my last. I just want to personally thank Hudson for helping me through that bleak period in my life, without her I'm sure I wouldn't be where I am today. I owe her my life.

I've dedicated my life to one purpose, meeting Hudson. You can bet if Hudson ever has a convention appearance in Indianapolis or anywhere close, I will do every in my power to see and meet her. Just being able to met the angelically beautiful Hudson Leick just once in my life would be a dream come true. A day doesn't pass that I don't say a prayer for Hudson. She is always in my thoughts and forever will be. I will eternally have a special place in my heart for Hudson. Once again THANK YOU!!! Hudson, you'll never know how much you mean to me. God Bless and remember your big break is just a heartbreak away.

I'm going to leave you guys with my favorite quote. "There are no classes in life for beginners; right away you are always asked to deal with what is most difficult."

Thanks, Michael...

"Goddess of Obsession"

Also, special thanks to Matt Peters <ghoti@cannet.com>, who originally termed the phrase "Goddess of Obsession", when referring to "Callisto", and who was kind enough to let me use the phrase in the first issue of the Hudson Leick newsletter. Thanks, Matt... (pssssssttt...I think Hudson "leicks" it, too <grin>)

One Last Reminder

In June, Hudson taped another episode of Xena: Warrior Princess that is scheduled to air sometime in the upcoming season. Watch your local tv listings for the exact date, and time, and don't forget to set those VCRs.

Hudson will also be going back to New Zealand in November to tape another Xena episode. We'll keep you informed if we find out when either of these episodes are due to air.

Until next time... Be Well, Everyone...
